Reconstruction typically refers to the process of building back your home or business after experiencing damage or simply growing tired of an outdated area. Remediation is the process of stopping the cause of the damage, typically from water leaks, mold growth, and/or fire/smoke.
For example, if you are a homeowner who has suffered a water leak, say from an overflowing washing machine, chances are that water has damaged the flooring, maybe some cabinets, and even the drywall in the general vicinity.
The remediation process entails removing the washing machine and fixing the cause of the leak. But that is just the beginning. Chances are that if water seeped under your vinyl or hardwood flooring, the flooring itself would have been removed to dry everything. The same goes for the cabinets and even the drywall. To not remove these items to ensure everything is dry means that within 24 to 48 hours, mold will start to grow, which needs to be properly mitigated as well and poses other challenges.
Once the entire is dried, the flooring, cabinets, drywall needs to be installed. Care should be taken that the reconstruction process is seamless and that no evidence of a water leak and associated demolition work remains.
